This is Savannah, but we call her Savvy. Shortly after Savvy's first birthday she was diagnosed with Systemic Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis (JRA). It wasn't an easy diagnosis to accept. The family's journey started before her 1st birthday. About every two weeks she was at the doctor suffering from very high fevers & swollen lymph nodes. One afternoon Savvy woke up from her nap with a high fever and purple face, hands and feet. She was rushed to the pediatrician and then to the ER. After several hours and many tests they still had no answers. It wasn't until after they visited 3 specialists over a period of months that they finally saw a Rheumatologist, at which time she was diagnosed with Systemic JRA.

After Savvy was diagnosed they thought it would ease their worries because they knew what to treat. However, with this illness you never know what tomorrow is going to bring. A simple cold can cause her body to attack itself, swimming & being cold can cause high fevers, and falling down left her unable to walk for weeks. She is in pain and unable to play like most toddlers, but somewhere within she finds the strength and fights. She handles herself like a trooper. That makes her our hero and someday she will help others through this disease the way others have helped us. We can only hope that one day soon we will find a cure for this disease and help to bring a full time Pediatric Rheumatologist to Nevada.

Hope to see you all there!

Fundraiser for SNAP Scholarship Fund

Hope you are all ready for a evening of fun at the LAS VEGAS 51s game.  SNAP (Southern Nevada Alumnae Panhellenic) has invited us to a baseball game at the Las Vegas Cashman field for a 51s game on Thursday June 2.  The 51s are a Triple-A baseball league.

The baseball game is a way to make money for the SNAP scholarship program.  Tickets only cost $10 and $3 from each ticket sold goes directly towards the SNAP scholarship program.  Please note that all money and unsold tickets are due back to Tamara by 5/25/2011.

The tickets for SNAP will be on the 3rd base line, with a great view of the field, palm trees and the mountains in the background.  Not many baseball fields feature such a great view!

Tickets are available from Tamara, please contact her to get tickets.  Cash and checks are accepted, and checks should be made out to Las Vegas AOII.  Please sell to friends, family members and co-workers.

The games are a blast, and Thursday nights also include $1 beer.

Thank you for your assistance in supporting SNAP Scholarship fund.

Hope to see you all there sporting some AOII shirts, baseball caps and maybe a baseball glove!
